Computer ports (The life connector’s)

Hi guys, this is Meeth Kaushal, student of seamedu – school of game & animation. Its all going good uptill now and here i am to share some productive information about computer ports. So here we start with a simple definition :

  • Computer ports : Computer port is a connector point between a computer and an internal / external device or any other peripheral device. Generally, a port refers to the female part of connection, which can be used to connect many devices, such as monitor, webcam, speakers, or any other peripheral device. Port connectors can be male or female, but usually female connectors are much more common. Thus, ports play a very vital role in terms of personal computer’s.

Here we proceed to types of ports :

Types of ports : Mainly there are 2 types of ports                                                                                                                    1) Physical ports                                                                                                                                              2) Virtual ports

1) Physical ports : To connect a computer through a cable and a socket to a peripheral device, physical ports are used. Serial ports (DB9 socket), USB ports, Parallel ports (DB 25 socket), Internet ports (RJ 45 socket), falls under physical computer ports.

2) Virtual ports : A virtual port is a dedicated network connection for each client device.

There are many different types of ports too, which are classified as follows :

1) Digital visual interface (DVI) : It is a video display interface. This is used to connect a video source to a display device. It is developed by Digital Display Working  Group (DDWG).

dvi-dvi-3m2) Display port : It is primarily used to connect a video source to a display device such as computer monitor. It is developed by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). It is the first display interface to rely on packetized data trnasmission.

3870427-1 (1)3) E-SATA : It is a computer interface that connects host bus adaptors to storage devices.IT can be hard disk drives and optical drives.

AK-ESATA-SATA100-R4) IEEE 1394 Interface : These kind of interface are used for high-speed communications and real-time transfer. IT was developed in 1980s and early 1990s. Apple is one of the developer of it and they call it Firewire.

5) PS/2 port : It is normally a 6 – pin used to mini-DIN connection used to connecting some keyboards and mice to computer system. Its name was originated from the IBM personal system /2 series.
